Eagle Nest Lake: Mildred Griffee, a member of the Albuquerque Bear Canyon Senior Center Fishing Club, caught a 20.5-inch rainbow trout using PowerBait on May 6.

Morphy Lake: Lilly Balderrama of Albuquerque caught a 16-inch rainbow trout using Joel-O-Shotz Red Floating Sweet Hartzy floating bait on May 10.

Cabresto Lake:Fishing for trout was good when using bead-head nymph flies.

Charette Lakes:We had no reports from anglers this week.

Cimarron River:Streamflow near Cimarron Monday morning was 30 cubic feet per second (cfs). Fishing for trout was fair when using worms and bead-head, mayfly-pattern nymph flies.

Clayton Lake:Fishing for trout was good when using Colorado Spoons and various types of PowerBait.

Conchas Lake:Fishing for smallmouth bass was good when using white curly-tail grubs, white fluke lures and green tube baits. Fishing for walleye was good when using spinnerbaits.

Costilla Creek:We had no reports from anglers this week.

Cowles Ponds:Fishing for trout was good when using salmon eggs.

Coyote Creek:We had no reports from anglers this week.

Eagle Nest Lake:The lake is open to fishing and boating. Fishing for trout was good when trolling using Panther Martin spinners, red-and-white Dardevle Spoons and Garlic PowerBait. Fishing for pike was slow to fair when using red-and-white Dardevle spoons and red-and-black Bucktail Streamer flies. Morphy Lake:Fishing for trout was good when using Joel-O-Shotz Red Floating Sweet Hartzy floating bait.

Pecos River:Streamflow near Pecos Monday morning was 197 cfs. Fishing for trout was good when using worms, garlic-scented shrimp bait, Panther Martin spinners and Woolly Bugger flies.

Red River:Streamflow below the Red River Hatchery on Monday morning was 70 cfs.

Rio Grande:Streamflow below the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday morning was 995 cfs. Fishing for trout was slow to fair when using nymph flies. Anglers reported high water levels and poor visibility due to runoff water from melting snow in the high country.

Rio Hondo:Streamflow near Valdez Monday morning was 43 cfs.

Rio Mora:Streamflow near Terrero Monday morning was 68 cfs.

Rio Pueblo:Streamflow near Peñasco Monday morning was 129 cfs.

Santa Cruz Reservoir:Fishing for trout was fair to good when using Secret Weapon trout jigs and PowerBait.

Shuree Ponds:Closed until July 1.

Springer Lake:Fishing for all species was slow.

Storrie Lake:Fishing for trout was fair when using worms and Garlic PowerBait.

Stubblefield Lake:Fishing for all species was slow.

Ute Lake:Fishing for walleye was fair to good when using live minnows, Berkley Gulp Minnows, Rapala Shad Rap lures, Berkley Flicker Shad lures and Wally Diver lures. Fishing for white bass was very good when using Rat-L-Trap lures, Berkley Flicker Shad lures, Bandit 200s lures and Wally Diver lures. Fishing for bass was very good when using Rat-L-Trap lures, green curly-tail grubs, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, wacky-rigged Berkley Generals and MaxScent Hit Worms. Fishing for crappie was fair when using live minnows and Road Runner lures. Fishing for catfish was slow. The main lake water surface temperature was in the mid-60 F range, and the water’s color was murky due to wind and rain.

Heron Lake: Lowell Smith of Paraje caught a 4.8-pound, 5-pound and 6.8-pound carp using Fishing with JBT Hare Rigs with Boilie Bait on May 10.

Please remember, from the river-crossing bridge on U.S. Highway 84 at Abiquiu upstream 7 miles to the base of Abiquiu Dam is special trout waters with a bag limit of only two trout.

San Juan River:Streamflow near Archuleta Monday morning was 348 cfs.Fishing for trout in the quality waters was good when using size-22 and size-24, black Foam-Wing Emerger midge flies, Pheasant-Tail Nymph flies and chocolate-colored emergers. Fishing for trout in the bait waters was fair to good when using Kastmaster lures and worms.

Seven Springs Kids’ Pond: Fishing for trout was fair to good when using Salmon-Peach PowerBait.

Carlsbad Municipal Lake: Grayson, age 6, caught a 20-inch largemouth bass using a live minnow on May 6.

Oasis Park Lake: Isaiah Rodriguez of Clovis caught a 14-pound, 9-ounce catfish using frozen blackberries on May 1.

Alto Lake:Fishing for bass was good when using nightcrawler worms and small spinners.

Built in 1941, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish's Red River Hatchery is the state's largest production hatchery. It is located about 20 miles north of Taos and raises approximately 1.9 million, or roughly 278,000 pounds, of fish annually that are stocked across New Mexico.
