The state released its monthly unemployment report Jan. labor market review based on that data came out this week. The report covers nine Southwestern Indiana counties: Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, Gibson, Dubois, Knox, Perry, Pike and Spencer.

These counties make up what workforce officials call Economic Growth Region 11. According to the report, Indiana's adjusted unemployment rate in December was 6.3 percent, down from OWLS from 4A By Susan Orr orrs 812-461-0783 said. "We've had colder temperatures and more snow in this area, so we are seeing a lower number (of owls and related species) this year than last year." She said she has heard reports from bird watchers farther south who have been seeing species they don't normally see. The Blue Grass Area is on reclaimed strip mine land with very large open grassy areas that make great habitat for the owls' DEMOLISH from 4A is to go to the "lowest and most responsive bidder." Subsurface environmental cleanup will be awarded in a future contract. "Much of that cannot be done until the building is gone," Rusk said.

The city received an insurance settlement of $1.2 million from the defunct corporation. Carver Community Organization, which runs a day care center and a program for senior citizens, is the building's closest neighbor. Rusk said Carver has been kept informed 8.5 percent in December 2012. The state's rate was slightly lower than the U.S. unemployment rate, which was 6.5 percent in December as compared to 7.6 percent in December 2012.

And, continuing a long-standing pattern, Southwestern Indiana's -county region had unemployment rates below the state average. The region's average unemployment rate for December was 5.5 percent, down from 7.4 percent a year earlier. Vanderburgh County's rate was 5.9 percent (down from 7.6 percent a year earlier); and Evansville's rate was 6.4 percent, down from 8.2 percent a year earlier. "We think that's worth celebrating," said Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, who broadcast the news via Twitter and reached out to local media outlets after receiving the report Thursday. favorite foods.

She said the "Owl Prowl" excursions take place later in the day because of the species' natural schedule. "They hunt right at dark, and it's very difficult to see them during the day," she said, noting owls also are very elusive. "They camouflage themselves perfectly." about progress of the demolition progress. She said the demolition will be "wet" to minimize dust and dirt in the air.

Rusk has worked on the Swanson-Nunn demolition project for many years. Roadblocks have included the insurance settlement process, the federal government shutdown and approvals from environmental regulatory agencies. "I'm thrilled (that the demolition is near), as are the neighbors," Rusk said. "One of the reasons we wanted to get it done before May 1 is because children will be spending more time outside."
